Leah Danze, LPC, ATR-BC
Licensed Professional Counselor / Board Certified Art Therapist based in Austin, TexasI specialize in working through the impact of trauma as it pertains to attachment, emotional, and relational issues. I work with adolescents and adults who are wanting to move towards greater connection and healing with self and others. Oftentimes, the most difficult feelings are hard to express with just words. For this reason, many clients who I work with choose to integrate talk therapy with somatic and art therapy in their sessions.
Prior to private practice, I worked as a therapist with veterans healing from PTSD and traumatic brain injury; with individuals seeking asylum in the United States; and with individuals who have lost loved ones in acts of extreme violence. Before attending graduate school at New York University to become a therapist, I served as a paralegal and translator for survivors of trafficking. I also worked alongside artists, psychologists, and social workers in Medellín, Colombia, through a fellowship from Princeton University. These experiences were quite formative for me, as I witnessed the power of healing practices that uplift connections between people, communities, and the land.
Painting, boxing, and gardening balance out my work as a therapist. These practices help me be present in my body and provide outlets for release and connection.
